Environmental Group Protest Shuts Down Busy Intersection of Chicago Financial District

At approximately 1pm CST, an environmental group, assisted by the Chicago Police Department, effectively shut down the intersection at LaSalle and Adams.  The protesters were joined together and lying in the intersection.  They shouted against the act of buying and selling of carbon emission credits and asked citizens to focus only on renewable energy.  Their actions drew the crowds from the financial district buildings.   While the protest was peaceful during the time I was there, CPD diverted traffic (both vehicular and foot) as to not make this into a dangerous situation.

It was great! I attended the ‘Light Up The Square’ Event on Friday November 27, 2009. The Newly Re-Elected Mayor Mark Mallory and Actor Josh Hutcherson pulled the switch to light the 55 foot Christmas tree that sits on our city’s ‘Fountain Square’.   The ‘Fountain Square’ is popularly known for scenes shown in late 70’s early 80’s sit com WKRP in CIncinnati. Local radio station Q102’s Jeff Thomas from “Jeff and Jen in the Morning” and Channel 5’s Sheree Paolello hosted the event. Hundreds maybe thousands attended. It was exciting!
