This marks the 16th season of this diverse transmedia series celebrating electroacoustic diversity and compositional risk. Inspired by the mysterious passionate spirit which drives flamenco performance, this year’s show promises innovative staging and engaging soundscapes in its continuing dedication to the science of wonder. As the culmination of a week-long residency at Cal Poly, Robert Thies joins the Cal Poly Symphony to perform George Gershwin’s Piano Concerto in F, a fusion of jazz and the classical tradition. The symphony will also perform Howard Hanson’s Symphony No. 2, “Romantic.” tickets: $10-12 general, $8-10 seniors, $6 students
Music Dept. chair W. Terrence Spiller joins guest artist pianist Robert Thies in an exciting program of repertory for two pianos. Included in the program will be works by Dohnanyi, Shostakovich, and Rachmaninoff, as well as other composers. The Cal Poly Choirs join forces with the Cuesta Master Chorale and the San Luis Obispo Symphony in two performances of Beethoven’s grand musical monument, Symphony No. 9. This is the season finale celebrating the SLO Symphony’s 50th anniversary.
One hundred and fifty of California’s finest young musicians are chosen by audition to participate in this spectacular Open House event. They are the future of music in America and it is our pleasure to showcase their talent under the direction of world-class conductors. This once a year experience immerses you into the alchemy of blending. Component wines, including Cabernet Franc, all from Adelaida’s celebrated Viking Estate Vineyard will be drawn from selected barrels, allowing you to assemble your own Reserve Viking blend. Representing the best barrels from the 2008 vintage, wines will be chosen from several key sites, some in new French oak barrels, some in neutral barrels, representing both older and younger vines
