Political Science Professor to Discuss ‘War of the Womb’ at Cal Poly May 17 Alesha Doan, associate professor in the Political Science Department at the University of Kansas, will present “War of the Womb: Expanding Morality Policies in an Era of Small Government” at noon Thursday, May 17, in Room 104 in the Graphic Arts Building at Cal Poly. Doan will discuss how politicians and citizens opposed to “Obamacare” claim the policy is an unfair intrusion into individuals’ private lives. Critics, however, do not extend these same sentiments to the widespread government intrusion into the lives of women. Doan will talk about how the past year saw passage of many laws across the U.S. that some people have referred to as being “anti-women.” Doan will illustrate how anti-abortion advocates and politicians have used a strategy of “radical incrementalism” to create a 21st century “war of the womb.” Doan’s research examines social policies, with a specialized focus on reproductive policy and the intersection of race and gender within these policy areas. The talk is free and open to the public
