Leap Year Trip starts in Paso Robles – visits Anglim Winery and Salisbury Vineyards Anglim Winery is located in Paso Robles’ historical Southern Pacific Depot. Area rail, agriculture and wine historian Don Campbell will accompany this group. Don will lead a tour around Pacific Coast Railway points of interest in the Avila area including information on the old Miles Station which was located near the current Salisbury Tasting Room. 12:30pm – 6:00pm . Cal Poly to Host Ilan Pappé, a Scholar on the Modern Middle East 2/22/2012 6:00 PM – 2/22/2012

Ilan Pappé, a scholar on the modern Middle East and the history of Israel and Palestine, will present “Arab Spring and Palestine/Israel Peace Process” at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, in Chumash Auditorium at Cal Poly. Pappé is a history professor at Exeter University in the United Kingdom, where he also serves as director of the European Centre for Palestine Studies and co-director for the Exeter Centre for Ethno-Political Studies. He founded and served as director of the Academic Institute for Peace in Givat Haviva, Israel, from 1992 to 2000 and was the chair of the Emil Tuma Institute for Palestine Studies in Haifa, Israel, from 2000 to 2006. Pappé was a senior lecturer in the department of Middle Eastern History and the Department of Political Science at Haifa University from 1984 to 2006.
His research on the modern Middle East focuses in particular on the history of Israel and Palestine. His publications include “Peoples Apart,” “The Bureaucracy of Evil,” “The Forgotten Palestinians: A History of the Palestinian Minority in Israel,” “The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine,” “The Modern Middle East,” “A History of Modern Palestine: One Land, Two Peoples,” and “Britain and the Arab-Israeli Conflict.”
The lecture is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by Cal Poly’s History Department. For more information, call 756-2670.
