Courtesy Fashion Week Daily Fashion Week may be in full swing, but that didn’t stop designer Christian Cota from taking a little time out from his busy schedule to hit the ice with Olympic gold medalist Oksana Baiul at New York City’s City Ice Pavilion. “When I was a kid I loved figure skating,” Cota tells The Daily . “But in Mexico they kind of push you toward hockey.” Despite a lack of figure-skating experience, Cota glided onto the ice like a seasoned pro, according to Oksana. “Christian is actually very athletic, and he’s very clean,” she said about the designer’s skating talent, which she likens to his refined design skills. “You can really tell that from his dresses. It’s nothing crazy, but it’s very fashionable.” The Olympic medalist even joined Cota for their skate date in one of his girly pink creations. “I always joked that [this dress] was a figure skating dress, but now that I’ve seen it, it has finally fulfilled its destiny,” he says. “I was saving it for the right moment, and it’s perfect with her hair color, her skin tone–everything.” And Oksana couldn’t have agreed more: “In this dress I feel very feminine. Everything is in the right place.” After seeing his design twirl on the ice, Christian even hints that he might think about designing for figure skaters on a more regular basis. “I’ve dressed ballerinas before, but this is the first time I’ve worked with a skater. It’s a great direction to take.” See the full story at fashionweekdaily.com . SEE MORE ON FASHION WEEK HERE!
