SLO Surfing Overview

The water is always cold, usually a brisk 55 degrees. Some spots the waves break fast and hard with jagged rocks underneath. If you have ever seen the competition at Mavericks then you should know what to expect. On the plus side is the fact that you will not find the crowds fighting over a wave. The size of the waves, especially during the winter, can be a thrill. Boots and a hood compensate for the colder water. The traffic to get to any of the better spots is non existant, and the parking is mostly for free. The locals are friendly and the food and lodging is reasonable. San Luis Obispo County is known for its mild climate and fresh air. Sunset Magazine once said, -How do you describe a place that's as ideal for people as it is for wine grapes? Where the annual average monthly highs range all the way from 62 degrees to 74 degrees? Oh, that's right: Perfect.-
