How Snoop Dogg Inspired Derek Jeter’s ‘Scentsual’ Memories

How Snoop Dogg Inspired Derek Jeter’s ‘Scentsual’ Memories

Retna Listening to Snoop Dogg’s “Lodi Dodi” proved particularly influential for Derek Jeter: it turned him on to his first fragrance. “When I was younger I used to wear Cool Water,” he shyly admitted to a group of reporters in New York Wednesday, referencing the rap’s lyrics. That cologne proved to be influential, too; it ultimately inspired the Yankees star to create his own fragrance, Derek Jeter Driven, and the newer Driven Black. “When I did this one years ago, the whole thing was a learning process,” he explained of Driven.

Lionel Hahn/Abaca Christina Aguilera , Jennifer Lopez and (begrudgingly) Adam Levine may be into the idea of creating their own fragrances, but one star who’s not? Carrie Underwood . “I really don’t know if I would do the whole fragrance thing,” she tells AOL’s The Boot . “I don’t want to smell like anybody else.” More importantly, she doesn’t want anyone else smelling like her. “If people walked up to me smelling like me, it might weird me out,” she admits. “So that one’s not quite for me.” However, the young starlet — the current face of Olay — isn’t totally opposed to putting her name on a product.

Does Adam Levine’s New Fragrance Smell of Hypocrisy?

Jon Kopaloff/FilmMagic; Inset: Charles Sykes/AP Eau de … eat crow? Adam Levine is likely feeling a little sheepish today after pal Christina Aguilera caught him contradicting himself on Twitter. On Wednesday, the Maroon 5 singer announced plans for his first fragrances for men and women, both called 222. According to a release, the scents will “reflect [his] personality and style” and retail for $36-$65. However, Aguilera must have a fabulous memory or a Twitter-savvy friend: Friday she Tweeted a link back to a March 2011 Tweet of Levine’s, which read , “I also would like to put an official ban on celebrity fragrances. Punishable by death from this point forward.” “Haha @AdamLevine,” Aguilera wrote in reply

Courtesy Parlux We already know she’s a Good Girl Gone Bad , but Rihanna plans to rebel even more with her second fragrance, Rebelle by Rihanna, hitting Macy’s stores this December, WWD reports . Following in the footsteps of her highly successful first scent, Reb’l Fleur, Rebelle is in part the result of a video poll the singer ran on her site; when asking fans if they feel more like a rebel or a flower, 68 percent said rebel — and Rebelle was born. “My grandmother in Barbados used to call me her Rebel Flower,” Rihanna told PEOPLE when her first fragrance launched earlier this year. As for the decision to create a scent?

Have you created a commercial for Keith Urban ‘s Phoenix cologne yet? We don’t want to scare you … but you may have some competition. Ellen DeGeneres got into the game this week, creating a spoof ad with Urban and airing it on her show. The country crooner keeps his cool as the talk show hostess spritzes him with water, cools him with ice and, well, gets very touchy-feely. The ad even comes with its own tagline: “Phoenix: It’s Hot.” After the clip aired, Urban joked, “You know that you’re the only woman that would be okay with my wife, doing that.” DeGeneres’s reply? “I don’t know, she may get jealous of that.” Urban is currently asking fans to submit commercial ideas to his site via YouTube; the winner will see his or her commercial air on live television and be flown to an Urban concert next year.

Purr, which was a top-seller around the globe for months, was intended to make the celebrity scent market “competitive,” Perry told WWD last year . “I saw a lot of my peers getting into this world, and, as with my music, I thought I could bring my touch to the category.” The fragrance — a combination of peach nectar, freesia, Bulgarian rose, apple and green bamboo — “was completely unlike anything I’d smelled before,” she said

Courtesy Coty In the TV ad for David Beckham ‘s new men’s fragrance, Homme , the svelte soccer star runs from one end of a building to the other — while shirtless! — then dives into his fragrance bottle. But the idea of drenching himself in a scent is not the message behind the ad; in fact, Beckham believes in just the opposite. “Women don’t like to smell a man before he enters a room,” he tells PEOPLE. “Women” meaning wife Victoria ; Beckham says he designed the fragrance with his lady’s preferences in mind, as the scent is “something that she has to put up with being on me.” With the bottle displaying Beckham’s new signature logo, Homme — which Beckham explains he wanted “to bring a masculine freshness” to the fragrance world — mixes citrus, wood and fiery pepper in a subtle fashion approved by Beckham’s team of experts: his sons.
