White Hall Tavern Too Much of a Good Thing

White Hall Tavern Too Much of a Good Thing

During the 1850′s White House Tavern was the place for armory workers (at least the men) to raise a glass during work hours or after work hours. The discussion ranged from wages, working conditions, politics to just things men discuss when they are together. It was later decided that the The White Hall Tavern and others like it were not such a good thing and was breaking the morals of the armory workers. The Tavern was owned by Frederick Roeder, a German immigrant and later a Union sympathizer

RIP Mr. Sendak

When I was young guy, my late father bought me this book at a garage sale. He would read it to me every night on the porch. One arm around me, book in other hand. This book has so much meaning to me, for this alone. Thank you Mr. Sendak

Korean Anti-Nuke Protests Intensify

Korean Anti-Nuke Protests Intensify

A day after Japan shut down its last nuclear reactor, across the sea in Samcheok, South Korea, about 150km south of the DMZ, protests towards the building of a nuclear power plant in the city limits continue. The rally and parade which took place in the city’s core and main street had about 250 protesters holding signs, umbrellas, and clappers, chanting their displeasure and opposition towards the project. This weekend’s protests were joined by Greenpeace Korea, and members of Greenpeace International as well as the docking of Esperanza, in the neighbouring city, Donghae Port. The protest and march were for the most part peaceful. Tempers did start to flare as a protester and another man who, the protester claimed was in favour of the project crossed paths. There were no injuries in the brief encounter

Politician Challenges Gov. Walker in Historic WI Recall Primary

Politician Challenges Gov. Walker in Historic WI Recall Primary

In what has turned out to be a historic political year for Wisconsin, it only seems fitting the memory of Abraham Lincoln, a Republican, is providing some context for the state’s historic recall election. A young politician from Madison, Arthur Kohl-Riggs, is running against Gov. Scott Walker to use his candidacy, as he puts it, “to highlight how, by traditional Republican standards,” that the Governor by his “policies and actions do not reflect the values of the Party of Lincoln.” While the casual observer may see Kohl-Riggs as a political “no name or side-show,” on closer examination he does have an impressive portfolio of work to show how serious he is to illustrate “Governor Walker’s divisive politics to separate our citizens and create conflict.” He has been covered by a wide variety of press and has posted over 150 YouTube videos, graphically documenting much of the political upheaval in the state. During an interview in La Crosse, Kohl-Riggs pointed out that Gov
